Sports!

Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to keep in mind that sports is always a fun, cool, way to make new friends and maintain a healthy body. I know most of you are very busy with school, but you should really try to consider joining a sports team, not only for your health, but for the benefits you get out of it, because having a sports team connects everybody together!  You might want to look into what VISION has to offer for sports, I know we never really were big on sports in the past, but time is changing and so is VISION.  Have a nice day!

Operation Christmas Child

Hey all you fabulous Learners!

I wanted to let you know how the Wrapping Party went. Basically, it was TONS of FUN! At the end of the day there were a total of 42 boxes to be sent to children who have never received a Christmas present. Great Job and God bless everyone who helped out!

Remember the Parade of Lights float last year? Well, we're doing one again this year! On November 29 and December 1-5 from 11:00-5:00 we will be building the float. Soooo.....anyone who would like to help come whenever you can. Also, if your parents would like to help supervise that would be FANTASTIC. We NEED adult supervisors in order to build the float! Please let your parents know and then let me know if they are interested and what times.

Okay, here's a discussion starter. What is going on with Prom this year? I heard that there was not going to be a Prom because there isn't a committee. Is that right? I believe we have a Learner who will be joining the Student Task Force and looking into a way to get a Prom this year! So let me know what's going on!

Oh! The Recycling Program is now underway. There are recycling bins in the Vision office and will soon be in the HQ building. When you recycle your cans, plastic, or glass PLEASE RINSE THEM OUT! We don't want to smell your trash. Thanks! I think this will be a great way to keep being a green school!

Committe Ideas

Hey fellow students!

I wanted to write and let you know some of the ideas I had for committee's, please give me your input!

The first committee as some of you know is an Environmental Awareness Committee. Under this committee we will start a recycling program, a compost pile, and spread information on how to be 'environmentally aware'!

The second committee is an Outreach Committee. This is a committee that doesn't focus soley on the Vision Program, but on our community. Through this committee I hope that we can reach out to groups of people who need extra help, who aren't getting the help they need, or just need a little extra help to complete the help their already getting. Tomorrow I am going to call the Department of Health and Human Services and find out where we can help. I'll post tomorrow and let you know what I found out! I already have an idea, but will wait until just the right time to spill the beans!

I think that's all I have for right now, the rest of the Student Task Force should be posting here within the next week so keep checking! Let each other know what you think!

K.D.'s Committee Idea

Hey everyone! These are my committee ideas. It's called Hope and Homes with Heart (wow, that's gettin' deep). If you have any better suggestions, shoot. I was thinking of taking animals to the hospital to visit the patients to bring them joy and hope, thus the first part of the name. My other ideas are to raise community awareness of unwanted and abused animals. We would set up a Foster care system and rescue as many animals as we can and find homes for them, thus the latter part of the name. I was also thinking of setting up "clinics" to educate the community on the severity of unwanted and abused animals, what they should do if they find an animal in this situation, etc. If the community resonds well I was thinking we could do something at the Vision for everyone there and we could do more, so it would be more in depth and cover more topics. I also have noticed the excessive number of cats in Delta and am thinking about establishing a spay and neuter program. It would probably be once a month until we get the problem under control and we would have as many local vets that will come and just line the cats up, so people would get a reduced price. I might also be able to find grants for the cats that don't have owners.

Name the Vanguard Contest!

The Student Task Force is hosting a Name the Vanguard Contest.
You know...that Vanguard really does need a name, I mean what kind of warrior doesn't have a name?! Anyways, there will be submission slips in the front office so....PICK ONE UP and let us hear YOUR opinion!

The contest ends November 21 of this year, so don't wait! Our Valiant Vanguard will then have a name as he rides down Main Street for the Parade of Lights this year!

Moving Forward

Hey everyone! There is so much happening here in the Student Task Force and we would like you to all be involved!

First of all, we had officer elections at our meeting today. The results are posted in the DVHCP newsletter.

Secondly, the Student Task Force will be starting up some committees. Now don't get scared...these are committees to help 'unite' the student body and connect/reach out to our community. Here's how it works
1)Someone is passionate about something...say homelessness.
2)That person then fills out a paper stating what they want their committee's purposes to be and turns it in to the Student Task Force
3)The Student Task Force will then vote on your committee...and will most likely be crazy about your idea...and say, "Go for it"!
4)You then write a proposal, and the Student Task Force will help you out here, and present it to the Staff for their approval.
5)Then start your projects. You will need people to help you so recruit, recruit. Some of the Student Task Force will also cooperate in your organization.

There you have it! If you have any questions PLEASE call me at 874-4276!! The Student Task Force would love to have your help working towards a common goal. Together, we as a student body, can make a difference in not only our schools, but our community as well!

Welcome!

Welcome to the Delta Vision Student Blog!
Our desire for this blog is to see students expressing their opinions on issues concerning the Program and issues pertaining to everyday topics.
Here's a little information on the Student Task Force. The Task Force is a group of students that meets weekly to express the views of students in the Program. This is why we have created the blog, so that you can inform us of your opinions and desires. We then take these views to the members of the Delta Accountability Committee once a week. Without your ideas and input we as students will not be able to tell the administration what would make our learning experience more beneficial.
Our plans for this year include starting a recycling committee and putting in a vending machine.
The recycling project will not only benefit the community, but supports the Vision office in their environmentally friendly building. The vending machine is for the revitalization of students energy. There is a poll to the right that we would very appreciative if you took. We do not want to put students on a sugar high from soda, but we do realize the popularity of soda. Therefore we plan to have snacks, and/or juices. Please let us know what you would like to see in a vending machine. The recycling committee and vending machine are not the limits of current issues the Student Task Force will be working on this year.
Thank you very much for your interest in this blog and we look forward to hearing from you guys!!
Hope your summer finishes wonderfully!
The views expressed here are not necessarily the views of the Delta Vision Home and Community Program.
